Congratulations to Ms. Vicky Ge, who has been selected to receive the 2024 Dr. William A. and Courtney C. Gentry Award. This award is presented to a graduating senior psychology major in high academic standing, who displays a strong potential for making an impact on the direction of psychology through their future career, and who has been accepted to and will attend a psychology-related graduate program the next academic year.

Ms. Ge is a double major in Psychology and Quantitative Science (Sociology Track) with a 3.994 GPA. She began working in the Translational Research in Affective Disorders Laboratory in 2022, where she was mentored by Drs. Michael Treadway and Jessica Cooper. She has been a wonderful addition to their lab—she is dedicated to learning about research methods and data analysis and is always willing to take on new challenges.

She completed her honors thesis co-mentored by Drs. Jessica Cooper and Jessica Barber, entitled “The role of trait anxiety in pessimistic expectations and belief updating: an ecological momentary assessment approach”, for which she received the designation of Highest Honors. Her thesis work required her to hone her analysis skills in R to analyze and synthesize a large amount of data. She met this challenge exceptionally well—she worked well independently, asked intelligent questions, wrote an excellent thesis, and excelled at presenting and defending her work. One of her committee members was particularly impressed and noted that it was the best honors project/presentation that he has seen at Emory.

Beyond her thesis work, Ms. Ge has been active in other psychology research at Emory, including working as a research assistant in the Wilson Lab and volunteering at the Marcus Autism Center. This Fall, Ms. Ge will be attending the Professional Counseling program (M.Phil.Ed.) at the University of Pennsylvania. Given the dedication that she has shown in the TReAD lab and working on her honors project, we have no doubt that Ms. Ge will excel in her graduate program and will make a lasting impact in the field
