McDowell’s Lab

Information for prospective students

Text Box: Prospective graduate students
We are always looking for potential graduate students who are interested in our work, and preferably, who have good backgrounds in mathematics and computer programming. However, we are willing to train good students whose quantitative and programming skills are less well developed. In addition to research, graduate students will normally enroll in our clinical program and receive clinical training. The Laney Graduate School provides full four-year stipends to our graduate students.

Undergraduate students (research assistants)
Are you a curious, hard-working, student interested in our research? Do you have (or wish to acquire) some pretty cool quantitative skills? Then maybe our lab could be the place for you! You’ll have the opportunity to:
work on some of the most difficult and fascinating questions in psychology
learn about computational approaches to science, a class of methods that is gaining momentum in fields like biology, economy, psychology, neuroscience, etc.
get hands-on experience with all aspects of research, from the formulation of theories, to collecting, analyzing, and making sense of data.
learn useful skills, from handling the entire process of data collection (computer-generated and human participants), to advanced computer skills (e.g. advanced Excel functions and features)
