From 1995 to 2001, Dr. Mills was an Assistant Research Scientist in the Center for Research in Language at the
University of California, San Diego. She joined the Emory faculty in Fall, 2001.Dr Mills uses the event-related
potential (ERP) technique to study how the organization of the brain changes during the course of language development.
Of particular interest is the role of experience in setting up cerebral specializations for different aspects of language
processing. In another line of research, she studies the development and plasticity of brain systems for sensory,
language, and non-language cognitive functions in atypical populations such as Williams Syndrome.
